Vanuatu first became populated more than 2000 years BC. The first Europeans came there in the XVII century. In the first half of the XX century the islands were governed by France and Britain together. That era was marked by founding several cargo cults (John Frum, etc). National independence gained in 1980.
In 2007 the new government act opened telecommunication market for competition which stimulated development of Vanuatu telecommunications companies.
